MFR is a highly effective hands-on massage therapy technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
The fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider's web or a sweater that exists uninterrupted from head to toe. It covers every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ down to the cellular level. In the normal healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration and has the ability to stretch and move without restriction.
When we experience physical trauma, scarring, or inflammation, the fascia loses its pliability becoming tight and restricted causing tension throughout the body. Trauma (such as a fall, whiplash, surgery, repetitive stress injuries, or habitual poor posture) over time has cumulative effects which may cause fascial restrictions. These changes in the fascial system influence the overall comfort and function of the body. Restricted fascia can exert excessive pressure on the body producing pain and/or limited motion. MFR opens up these restrictions and provides long-term pain relief.
We promote independence in healing through education in proper body mechanics and movement, as well as the enhancement of strength, flexibility, and mind/body awareness. Myofascial Release has been used successfully in the treatment of acute/chronic pain, headaches, digestive discomforts, reproductive concerns, fibromyalgia, and much more.
