Myofascial Release Tips

Before

For the John F. Barnes Myofacial Release sessions, women may wish to bring loose fitting workout shorts and perhaps a sports bra. Men may wish to wear underwear or baggie shorts.  Please avoid the use of boy and face lotions while preparing for a treatment.  You will be covered during the session.  Only the area being worked on will be undraped to ensure the privacy and safety of the patient.

During

Gentle, prolonged, hands-on pressure is applied to areas of restriction and tightness in your body until it softens and lengthens.  Treatment is not forceful, does not involve manipulation, and does not use oils or creams.  Within one session, you will receive hands-on treatment to various parts of your body depending on your symptoms and where you body is restricted.

It is important for you to be completely relaxed.  Many people close their eyes and imagine softening on the table in order to completely relax.  Please feel free to ask your therapist questions, or communicate any sensations during your session.

After

Following your session, you will typically feel very relaxed.  After this experience, many people have increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity – which can last for days.  Since toxins are released from your soft tissue during the session, it is important that you drink plenty of water for 24 to 48 hours following your session.
